I heard your “spot” regarding your concern about how the media should report the facts surrounding, Mark Conditt, the man suspected of being behind a series of deadly package bombs in Austin. You stressed that you hoped the media doesn’t misconstrue his conservatism, faith, and that he was home schooled. Conditt allegedly killed two people and wounded five others with a series of bomb attacks that horrified and terrorized the Austin area for weeks. Additionally, in audio recorded cellphone statement, Conditt, among other things, said: “I wish I were sorry but I’m not” for the bombings. If you simply peruse the internet, you would easily find pictures of Mark Conditt smiling as if life is good. Those photos are of days gone by. The smiling photos can be found on any of the cable outlets as well as the Christian post. In fact, The Christian Post reports a story of an 18 year old who was arrested for multiple counts of armed robbery and attempted robbery. Davion Dangelo Gates is pictured in a photo along with his mother smiling as well. I agree that everything about Conditt should be reported factually and truthfully. But it is important to note the seriousness of his crimes. I have to use the word “allegedly” . Law enforcement officials don’t as they have more than enough evidence that points to his guilt. It seems as if you are more concerned about his background than Mark was. There is a much bigger picture here. In all of our getting, we must understand what’s going on around us. Can you control how others report a matter? You are the media as well. It is most important how you report it. If this broadcast on the night time shows (Dateline, 20/20, etc..), it is will be most difficult to ascertain who and what is being portrayed. Where and who will the focus be? It seems as if his conservatism, faith, and the fact that he was home schooled meas more to you than to him. We have got to contain ourselves. Well, I could say on but I won’t and I am waiting to hear from you.
